Too close for comfort: The majestic Bharachukki water fall

Image

The Bharachukki waterfall in all its glory.

It has always been my dream to visit the Victoria falls in Africa and the Niagara in the Us-Canadian border. I am sure that day will come soon but until than why not enjoy some other wonders of nature in the same league!!!!

My recent trip to the Shivanasamudra Falls was great fun. Located at a distance of around 130 Kms from the city of Bangalore, it is a perfect spot for a nice and relaxing weekend gateway. The falls is on the Kaveri river and is actually made up of two separate segments. The right segment of the river forms the Bharachukki falls and the left segment situated few kilometers away forms the Gaganachukki falls. Will tell you about Gaganachukki falls in one of my forth coming posts.

Getting closer to the water fall.

For me Bharachukki was great fun because you can go down to the river, hire a boat and actually get under the falls!! Scary but exhilarating….The boats that take you on a ride is typical of this region of India and is actually circular in shape. You feel as if you are floating around in a bowl!!!

The round boats.

The highly skilled brigade.

As we got near the falls the sound was deafening and my mind started wondering what should I grab if the boat turns turtle. It was such an amazing ride!!!

Approaching the waterfall on the boat…The fun is on!!!!!!

We are next after them….Getting ready to get drenched.

Too too close for comfort now!! A pathetic effort to highlight my predicament and protect the camera at the same time.

Another view of the Bharachukki waterfall.

A viewpoint for the less adventurous.

It was day really well spent amidst nature and freshness. Next stop, the Gaganachukki falls…

  1. Thanks for liking my post about hiking in Oaxaca. It’s one of our favorite activities here. I enjoyed your post about the Bharachukki Falls, and those bowl shaped boats look like great fun! I am going to check out your other posts, as your photos and descriptions are quite interesting, and I like learning about a part of the world that I will probably never be able to visit.
My dream falls to visit is Iguazú Falls on the border of Brazil and Argentina.
